We are excited to announce that the Centers for Instructional Effectiveness and Instructional Innovation, along with Perimeter College’s Center for Teaching and Learning have combined to form Georgia State University’s new Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning (CETL). Our merged centers will continue to work towards enhancing the best practices in pedagogy campus-wide. As part of this reorganization we will assign CETL departmental and college-level liaisons for all of our programs and resources. The CETL will be housed in newly renovated space on the 1st floor of Library South.
I’d like to welcome all of our new colleagues and welcome back all of the faculty and graduate students who we’ve had the pleasure to work with in the past. I hope that you’ve all had a good start to 2016 Fall semester. The mission of CETL is to foster a university community where the best practices of engaged teaching and learning are supported and promoted. We serve as a resource for all instructors, from first-time graduate assistants to seasoned faculty, and offer a variety of professional development opportunities and workshops open to the entire Georgia State community. We are excited to now be consolidated with the Center for Instructional Innovation and the Perimeter College Center for Teaching and Learning as one University-wide Center for Excellence in Teaching & Learning.
We launched several new programs during the last academic year including the Faculty Teaching Fellows program and mini-grant program that continue in 2016-17. Excitingly this year we have started a new Faculty Teaching & Learning Communities (Faculty-TaLC) program with five Faculty-TaLC themes to support faculty professional development in teaching.
The Faculty-TaLCs for 2016-17 are:
- Surviving (and Enjoying) Your First Year of Teaching
- Digital Literacy Across the Curriculum
- Exploring Adaptive and Personalized Learning
- Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in STEM Education at Perimeter College
- Changing your Students’ Minds: Student Motivation and Self-Efficacy
For graduate students we continue to offer our Certificate of Excellence in College Teaching, General Pedagogy Training, and International Teaching Assistants Training Program. Partnering with Perimeter College we are also offering workshops and training that addresses the needs of student veterans in the classroom. We look forward to seeing you at our workshops, the Conference on Scholarly Teaching on April 15th, and other CIE events!
Have a great semester,
